BOULDER - Active Interest Media Inc. from El Segundo, Calif. is moving the editorial offices of American Cowboy and Southwestern Art magazines to Boulder. Active Interest is combining the offices of the two magazines into a new group called the Western Art and Living Group that will start operations Oct. 2 at 921 Walnut St.
American Cowboy, which Active Interest purchased in May, has been located in Sheridan, Wyo., and Southwestern Art had an office in Houston. "We wanted to have our staff in the same place," said Kristin Bucher, editor in chief of Southwestern Art. Three members of the Houston staff, including Bucher, are relocating to Boulder, while none of the Sheridan staff is. The two magazines together employ about 15 people, Bucher said. Most of the eight or 10 open positions have been filled, she said.
Southwestern Art has been a monthly published since 1971. The glossy magazine has a circulation of 60,000 and is targeted toward people who collect fine art. American Cowboy has been in business for 12 years. The bimonthly, also a 100-page glossy, has a circulation of 80,000 and targets Western enthusiasts who are interested in Western travel, rodeo, fashion and other topics. The magazines will continue to be printed by their current printers, Bucher said.
